Queen of Hungary Waters (skin tonic and astringent)

This recipe for Queen of Hungary Water is considered the first known perfume.  There is no need to refrigerate so your efforts will last a long time!  Special thanks to member Mary Boehm for testing recipes and suggesting this one.

Herbal Ingredients:
6 parts lemon balm leaf
4 parts chamomile flowers
4 parts rose petals
3 parts calendula flowers
3 parts comfrey leaf
1 part lemon peel
1 part rosemary
1 part sage leaf
Vinegar (Apple cider of wine)
Rose Water or witch hazel extract
Lavender oil or rose oil (optional)

Put herbs in a wide mouth glass jar.  Cover the herbs with Apple cider vinegar.  Add two more inches of vinegar.  Cover the jar and steep 6 weeks.  Gently shake the jar every few days.

Strain the herbs and reserve the liquid.  For each cup of liquid add 1/2 cup rose water or witch hazel.  May add a drop or two of essential oil.  Bottle and label.

This will keep without refrigeration indefinitely.  Use as facial toner, add to bath water, massage into skin; it’s an all around tonic.  It’s rejuvenating, purifying and mood raising.
